It's still June 21 in Washington, DC - a historic anniversary, which, of course, Donald Trump does not know and many Americans don't remember. On June 21, 1941 Hitler's forces invaded the Soviet Union in Operation Barbarossa, a giant and suicidal mistake. It would end only when the Soviet forces had destroyed German war-making capability and taken Berlin, days after Hitler shot himself in his bunker as the artillery shells were landing all around.

The US under Donald Trump has taken a crucial step now in its long series of wars in the Middle East, starting with Harry Truman's decision to recognize the state of Israel in 1948 against the advice of his Secretary of State, George Marshall, supported by all the diplomats of the Department of State. Since then US support was critical in the Six Day War, and all the wars of Israel which have followed. The US was bloodied in some conflicts, as in Lebanon. It interfered in 1953 to overthrow Iran's democratically elected government in a coup and put back the Shah, who in turn was forced to flee in 1979 by the Islamic Revolution.

What will the Iranian regime do now as it may realize that it has no choice left but to go down fighting? It has enriched uranium to over 60%. That's enough for a dirty bomb which can be delivered by truck, placed in a container at a port, or dropped from a plane. It also has a huge stock of short- and medium-range missiles which it hasn't used so far against Israel.
